Pregnant woman, 24, dies after getting her hair caught in a go-kart sprocket, family says

The 24-year-old’s family said she was 15 weeks pregnant when she was injured. She and her boyfriend had just learned they were having a baby boy, whom they were going to name Johnny.

Johnson’s family also said she had just secured her dream job as a medical assistant at Prisma Health OB/GYN–Sumter.

Loved ones shared a message that Johnson received from country music star Riley Green after she was first taken to the hospital.

A visitation for Johnson is being held Friday night at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home in Sumter, with a celebration of life scheduled for Saturday, according to her obituary.

“Caring for others came naturally to Baylee—but so did making them laugh. And if there is one thing everyone who knew Baylee could agree on, it is that she was funny,” her obituary read. “Baylee was silly, spontaneous and completely carefree. She did not simply walk into a room; she brought life into it.”

The family is also asking that memorials be made in memory of Baylee and Johnny through the McLeod Health Foundation.
